  48. The current team
  49. ================
  50. These are the folks who have a long history of contributions, a solid track
  51. record of being helpful on the mailing lists, and a proven desire to dedicate
  52. serious time to Django. In return, they've been invited to join the :ref:`core
  53. team <core-team>`.
  54. Malcolm Tredinnick
  55. Malcolm originally wanted to be a mathematician, somehow ended up a software
  56. developer. He's contributed to many Open Source projects, has served on the
  57. board of the GNOME foundation, and will kick your ass at chess.
  58. When he's not busy being an International Man of Mystery, Malcolm lives in
  59. Sydney, Australia.
  60. *Malcolm passed away on March 17, 2013.*
  61. `Luke Plant`_
  62. At University Luke studied physics and Materials Science and also
  63. met `Michael Meeks`_ who introduced him to Linux and Open Source,
  64. re-igniting an interest in programming. Since then he has
  65. contributed to a number of Open Source projects and worked
  66. professionally as a developer.
  67. Luke has contributed many excellent improvements to Django,
  68. including database-level improvements, the CSRF middleware and
  69. many unit tests.
  70. Luke currently works for a church in Bradford, UK, and part-time
  71. as a freelance developer.

  74. `Russell Keith-Magee`_
  75. Russell studied physics as an undergraduate, and studied neural networks for
  76. his PhD. His first job was with a startup in the defense industry developing
  77. simulation frameworks. Over time, mostly through work with Django, he's
  78. become more involved in Web development.
  79. Russell has helped with several major aspects of Django, including a
  80. couple major internal refactorings, creation of the test system, and more.
  81. Russell lives in the most isolated capital city in the world — Perth,
  82. Australia.
  83. .. _russell keith-magee: http://cecinestpasun.com/

  85. James is Django's release manager, and also contributes to the
  86. documentation and provide the occasional bugfix.
  87. James came to Web development from philosophy when he discovered
  88. that programmers get to argue just as much while collecting much
  89. better pay. He lives in Lawrence, Kansas and previously worked at
  90. World Online; currently, he's part of the Web development team at
  91. Mozilla.
  92. He `keeps a blog`_, and enjoys fine port and talking to his car.

  106. Matt Boersma
  107. Matt is responsible for Django's Oracle support.
  108. Ian Kelly
  109. Ian is also responsible for Django's support for Oracle.
  110. Joseph Kocherhans
  111. Joseph was the director of lead development at EveryBlock and previously
  112. developed at the Lawrence Journal-World. He is treasurer of the `Django
  113. Software Foundation`_. He often disappears for several days into the woods,
  114. attempts to teach himself computational linguistics, and annoys his
  115. neighbors with his Charango_ playing.
  116. Joseph's first contribution to Django was a series of improvements to the
  117. authorization system leading up to support for pluggable authorization.
  118. Since then, he's worked on the new forms system, its use in the admin, and
  119. many other smaller improvements.

  143. .. _GeoDjango: http://geodjango.org/
  144. Karen Tracey
  145. Karen has a background in distributed operating systems (graduate school),
  146. communications software (industry) and crossword puzzle construction
  147. (freelance). The last of these brought her to Django, in late 2006, when
  148. she set out to put a Web front-end on her crossword puzzle database.
  149. That done, she stuck around in the community answering questions, debugging
  150. problems, etc. -- because coding puzzles are as much fun as word puzzles.
  151. Karen lives in Apex, NC, USA.
  152. `Jannis Leidel`_
  153. Jannis graduated in media design from `Bauhaus-University Weimar`_,
  154. is the author of a number of pluggable Django apps and likes to

  172. Perth, Western Australia where he attended the same high school as
  173. Russell Keith-Magee.
  174. .. _James Tauber: http://jtauber.com/
  175. `Alex Gaynor`_
  176. Alex is a software engineer working at Rackspace_. He found Django in 2007 and
  177. has been addicted ever since he found out you don't need to write out your
  178. forms by hand. He has a small obsession with compilers. He's contributed
  179. to the ORM, forms, admin, and other components of Django.

  196. .. _Andrew Godwin: http://www.aeracode.org/
  197. `Carl Meyer`_
  198. Carl has been working with Django since 2007 (long enough to remember
  199. queryset-refactor, but not magic-removal), and works as a freelance
  200. developer with OddBird_. He became a Django contributor by accident,
  201. because fixing bugs is more interesting than working around them.

  205. Ramiro Morales
  206. Ramiro has been reading Django source code and submitting patches since
  207. mid-2006 after researching for a Python Web tool with matching awesomeness
  208. and being pointed to it by an old ninja.
  209. A software developer in the electronic transactions industry, he is a
  210. living proof of the fact that anyone with enough enthusiasm can contribute
  211. to Django, learning a lot and having fun in the process.
  212. Ramiro lives in Córdoba, Argentina.
  213. `Gabriel Hurley`_
  214. Gabriel has been working with Django since 2008, shortly after the 1.0
  215. release. Convinced by his business partner that Python and Django were the
  216. right direction for the company, he couldn't have been more happy with the
  217. decision. His contributions range across many areas in Django, but years of
  218. copy-editing and an eye for detail lead him to be particularly at home
  219. while working on Django's documentation.
  220. Gabriel works as a web developer in Berkeley, CA, USA.
  221. .. _gabriel hurley: http://strikeawe.com/
  222. `Chris Beaven`_
  223. Chris has been submitting patches and suggesting crazy ideas for Django
  224. since early 2006. An advocate for community involvement and a long-term
  225. triager, he is still often found answering questions in the #django IRC
  226. channel.
  227. Chris lives in Napier, New Zealand (adding to the pool of Oceanic core
  228. developers). He works remotely as a developer for `Lincoln Loop`_.

  231. Honza Král
  232. Honza first discovered Django in 2006 and started using it right away,
  233. first for school and personal projects and later in his full-time job. He
  234. contributed various patches and fixes mostly to the newforms library,
  235. newforms admin and, through participation in the Google Summer of Code
  236. project, assisted in creating the :ref:`model validation
  237. <validating-objects>` functionality.
  238. He is currently working for `Whiskey Media`_ in San Francisco developing
  239. awesome sites running on pure Django.
  240. .. _Whiskey Media: http://www.whiskeymedia.com/
  241. Tim Graham
  242. When exploring Web frameworks for an independent study project in the fall
  243. of 2008, Tim discovered Django and was lured to it by the documentation.
  244. He enjoys contributing to the docs because they're awesome.
  245. Tim works as a software engineer and lives in Philadelphia, PA, USA.
  246. `Idan Gazit`_
  247. As a self-professed design geek, Idan was initially attracted to Django
  248. sometime between magic-removal and queryset-refactor. Formally trained
  249. as a software engineer, Idan straddles the worlds of design and code,
  250. jack of two trades and master of none. He is passionate about usability
  251. and finding novel ways to extract meaning from data, and is a longtime
  252. photographer_.

  260. `Paul McMillan`_
  261. Paul found Django in 2008 while looking for a more
  262. structured approach to web programming. He stuck around after
  263. figuring out that the developers of Django had already invented
  264. many of the wheels he needed. His passion for breaking (and then
  265. fixing) things led to his current role working to maintain and
  266. improve the security of Django.

  273. Julien has a background in software engineering and human-computer
  274. interaction. As a Web developer, he enjoys tinkering with the backend as
  275. much as designing and coding user interfaces. Julien discovered Django in
  276. 2007 while doing his PhD in Computing Sciences. Since then he has
  277. contributed patches to various components of the framework, in particular
  278. the admin. Julien was a co-founder of the `Interaction Consortium`_. He

  283. `Aymeric Augustin`_
  284. Aymeric is an engineer with a background in mathematics and computer
  285. science. He chose Django because he believes that software should be simple,
  286. explicit and tested. His perfectionist tendencies quickly led him to triage
  287. tickets and contribute patches.
  288. Aymeric has a pragmatic approach to software engineering, can't live without
  289. a continuous integration server, and likes proving that Django is a good
  290. choice for enterprise software.

  294. `Claude Paroz`_
  295. Claude is a former teacher who fell in love with free software at the
  296. beginning of the 21st century. He's now working as freelancer in Web
  297. development in his native Switzerland. He has found in Django a perfect
  298. match for his needs of a stable, clean, documented and well-maintained Web
  299. framework.

  305. Anssi works as a developer at Finnish National Institute for Health and
  306. Welfare. He is also a computer science student at Aalto University. In his
  307. work he uses Django for developing internal business applications and sees
  308. Django as a great match for that use case.
  309. Anssi is interested in developing the object relational mapper (ORM) and
  310. all related features. He's also a fan of benchmarking and he tries keep
  311. Django as fast as possible.
  312. Florian Apolloner
  313. Florian is currently studying Physics at the `Graz University of Technology`_.
  314. Soon after he started using Django he joined the `Ubuntuusers webteam`_ to
  315. work on *Inyoka*, the software powering the whole Ubuntuusers site.

  319. Jeremy Dunck
  320. Jeremy was rescued from corporate IT drudgery by Free Software and, in part,
  321. Django. Many of Jeremy's interests center around access to information.
  322. Jeremy was the lead developer of Pegasus News, one of the first uses of
  323. Django outside World Online, and has since joined Votizen, a startup intent
  324. on reducing the influence of money in politics.
  325. He serves as DSF Secretary, organizes and helps organize sprints, cares
  326. about the health and equity of the Django community. He has gone an
  327. embarrassingly long time without a working blog.
  328. Jeremy lives in Mountain View, CA, USA.
  329. `Bryan Veloso`_
  330. Bryan found Django 0.96 through a fellow designer who was evangelizing
  331. its use. It was his first foray outside of the land that was PHP-based
  332. templating. Although he has only ever used Django for personal projects,
  333. it is the very reason he considers himself a designer/developer
  334. hybrid and is working to further design within the Django community.
  335. Bryan works as a designer at GitHub by day, and masquerades as a `vlogger`_

  340. `Preston Holmes`_
  341. Preston is a recovering neuroscientist who originally discovered Django as
  342. part of a sweeping move to Python from a grab bag of half a dozen
  343. languages. He was drawn to Django's balance of practical batteries included
  344. philosophy, care and thought in code design, and strong open source
  345. community. Currently working for Amazon Web Services, he is always looking
  346. for opportunities to volunteer for community oriented education projects,
  347. such as for kids and scientists (e.g. Software Carpentry).
  348. Preston lives with his family and animal menagerie in Santa Barbara, CA, USA.

  350. `Simon Charette`_
  351. Simon is a mathematics student who discovered Django while searching for a
  352. replacement framework to an in-house PHP entity. Since that faithful day
  353. Django has been a big part of his life. So far, he's been involved in some
  354. ORM and forms API fixes.
  355. Apart from contributing to multiple open source projects he spends most of
  356. his spare-time playing `Ultimate Frisbee`_ and working part-time
  357. at this awesome place called `Reptiletech`_.

  362. Donald Stufft
  363. Donald found Python and Django in 2007 while trying to find a language,
  364. and web framework that he really enjoyed using after many years of PHP. He
  365. fell in love with the beauty of Python and the way Django made tasks simple
  366. and easy. His contributions to Django focus primarily on ensuring that it
  367. is and remains a secure web framework.
  368. Donald currently works at `Nebula Inc`_ as a Software Engineer for their
  369. security team and lives in the Greater Philadelphia Area.

  381. before 1.0. He is a Free Software enthusiast, but life happens, and
  382. he was driven by consulting gigs to contribute to the Oracle and
  383. SQL Server backends of South, and then the Oracle backend of Django
  384. itself. Finally, he joined core to help maintain the Oracle backend.
  385. Shai works for `Platonix`_, a small consulting company he started

  388. Baptiste Mispelon
  389. Baptiste discovered Django around the 1.2 version and promptly switched away
  390. from his homegrown PHP framework. He started getting more involved in the
  391. project after attending DjangoCon EU 2012, mostly by triaging tickets and
  392. submitting small patches.
  393. Baptiste currently lives in Budapest, Hungary and works for `M2BPO`_,
  394. a small French company providing services to architects.

  396. `Daniele Procida`_
  397. Daniele works at Cardiff University `School of Medicine`_. He unexpectedly
  398. became a Django developer on 29th April 2009. Since then he has relied
  399. daily on Django's documentation, which has been a constant companion to
  400. him. More recently he has been able to contribute back to the project by
  401. helping improve the documentation itself.
  402. He is the author of `Arkestra`_ and `Don't be afraid to commit`_.

  407. `Erik Romijn`_
  408. Erik started using Django in the days of 1.2. His largest contribution to Django was
  409. ``GenericIPAddressField``, and he has worked on all sorts of patches since.
  410. While developing with Django, he always keeps a little list of even the slightest
  411. Django frustrations, to tackle them at a later time and prevent other developers
  412. from having to deal with the same issues.
  413. Erik is an independent app maker, mostly developing web and mobile apps, as
  414. `Solid Links`_. He also enjoys helping ordinary developers to build safer web apps,
  415. for which Django is already a great start, and developed `Erik's Pony Checkup`_ with
  416. that goal in mind. Erik lives in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
